Samsung Galaxy S8 “to feature a 4K screen”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Will the Samsung Galaxy S8 feature a 4K screen? As Digital Spy reports citing UploadVR, at the DisplayWeek conference in San Francisco, Samsung showed off a new 5.5-inch 4K resolution smartphone designed for VR.

The "high resolution for VR" screen has a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 with a 44.7% increase in pixel density at 806 ppi. It was noted as "pretty gorgeous, bright with excellent contrast and colour".

"However it seemed to be running at a lower frame rate, so it may currently have a less than optimal refresh rate for VR," added UploadVR.

Samsung's current flagship models - the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge - have a Quad HD resolution display (2,560 x 1,440).

The display was said to be demoed as a "prototype", despite rumours of a 4K display on the Galaxy Note 6.

At the conference, Samsung were also showcasing a different VR aimed tech they are calling "Bio Blue".

It is aimed at displaying less of the potentially harmful blue light (6% as opposed to 32% currently on AMOLED displays), and could allow users to have longer playtimes for VR with less eye strain.

Last year, Sony released the Xperia Z5 Premium, the world's first smartphone with a 4K display at the same resolution and pixel density as Samsung's display.
