NATO experts' report on Armenia awaits debate in Brussels early April

PanARMENIAN.Net - NATO's decision to launch the Individual Partnership Action Plan is conditioned by progress in the Armenia-NATO relations during the recent several years, RA Ambassador to NATO Samvel Mkrtchyan told a news conference in Yerevan. The interim report on Armenia organized by NATO experts will be presumably considered in Brussels in early April, according to him. "The discussion will be held in the 26+1 format with participation of the NATO Secretary General. The IPAP doesn't suppose obligatory joining NATO. It's political decision and should be taken by the leadership of the state. It's the RA President only, who can announce of intention to join NATO," Mkrtchyan said.



The RA Ambassador to NATO also noted that participation in NATO programs proceeds from the national security interests. The Strategy of National Security of Armenia is an open document and supposes addenda conditioned by changed realities in the region, he said.
