Jim Jarmusch’s Cannes Film Fest entry “Paterson” sells worldwide

PanARMENIAN.Net - K5 is close to selling out on Jim Jarmusch’s Cannes Film Festival competition entrant “Paterson,” which stars Adam Driver as a bus driver and poet, Variety said.

Sales closed now include Weltkino (Germany/Austria), Filmcoopi (Switzerland), Cinema Srl (Italy), Vertigo (Spain), Scanbox (Scandinavia), Imagine (Benelux), Longride (Japan), Madman (Australia), Green Narae (South Korea), Leopardo (Portugal), Ama (Greece), Gutek (Poland), Aero (Czech Republic/Slovakia) and MCF (former Yugoslavia).

K5 is also in the final stages of closing deals with buyers in remaining territories including Canada, Russia, Turkey, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Latin American countries.

Co-financiers Amazon Studios have U.S. rights and Jarmusch regular Jean Labadie’s Le Pacte has France.

“’Paterson’ was fantastically well-received by critics, audiences and buyers in Cannes. The excellent sales we have concluded throughout the world are testament both to the genius of Jim Jarmusch and this film, which is one of his very finest, and also to the ever-growing appeal of Adam Driver who delivers one of this year’s most wonderful, subtle and clever performances,” said Carl Clifton, partner and head of sales at K5.

“Paterson” is a K5 International and Amazon Studios presentation, in association with Le Pacte, of an Inkjet Production. Amazon will release the film later this year.

Paterson is a bus driver in the city of Paterson, New Jersey — they share the name.

“Every day, Paterson adheres to a simple routine: he drives his daily route, observing the city as it drifts across his windshield and overhearing fragments of conversation swirling around him,” according to a press statement. “He writes poetry into a notebook; he walks his dog; he stops in a bar and drinks exactly one beer; he goes home to his wife, Laura. By contrast, Laura’s world is ever changing. New dreams come to her almost daily.

“Paterson loves Laura and she loves him. He supports her newfound ambitions; she champions his gift for poetry.

“The film quietly observes the triumphs and defeats of daily life.”

K5’s slate includes “The Seagull,” starring Annette Bening and Saoirse Ronan, and directed by Michael Meyer, and produced by Leslie Urdang, Tom Hulce and Robert Salerno, plus the Peter Safran-produced “Mine,” starring Armie Hammer, directed by Fabio Guaglione and Fabio Resinaro. K5 has also been enjoying success recently with Martin Zandvliet’s “Land of Mine,” and Ethan Hawke-starrer “Born to Be Blue.”

K5 is in pre-production on the Clive Owen/Amanda Seyfried sci-fi action movie “Anon,” directed by Andrew Niccol.
