Fox’s “Lethal Weapon” series heads to ITVJuly 4, 2016 - 15:44 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Fox’s upcoming U.S. series “Lethal Weapon” is set to air in the U.K. on commercial channel ITV, Variety reports. The show, which was acquired by the Brit channel from Warner Bros. International Television Distribution, is based on Warner Bros.’ 1987 Mel Gibson and Danny Glover actioner and tells the story of the classic cop duo Martin Riggs, played by Clayne Crawford, and Roger Murtaugh, played by Damon Wayans, as they work a crime-ridden beat in modern-day Los Angeles. The deal marks a return to acquisitions for ITV and was negotiated by ITV head of acquired series Sasha Breslau and controller of acquisitions, rights and regulatory, Jonathan Vandermeer. “‘Lethal Weapon’ was a standout drama from this year’s screenings, superbly rebooting a beloved franchise with the perfect mix of action, heart, humour and terrific chemistry between Wayans and Crawford as the iconic cop duo,” said Breslau in a statement. “I’m thrilled and excited to see the show take its place alongside ITV’s popular homegrown dramas.” The show, which will preem in the U.S. this Autumn, sees family man and by-the-book LAPD detective Murtaugh return to work after a near fatal heart attack which results in his doctor telling him he needs to keep his stress levels to a minimum. This proves a challenge when he is paired with ex-Navy Seal-turned-detective Riggs, who has just moved to California for a new start at the LAPD. Matt Miller (“Chuck,” “Las Vegas”), Dan Lin (“Sherlock Holmes” films, “The Lego Movie”), Jennifer Gwartz (“Veronica Mars,” “Forever”) and McG (“Supernatural,” “Nikita”) are exec producers of “Lethal Weapon.” Miller penned the pilot episode, which was directed by McG. The series is from Lin Pictures and Good Session Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. It is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. International Television Distribution.
