Bill Kunstler has been hired to adapt the Ursula Vernon children’s book Castle Hangnail into a feature film at Disney. It centers on a 12-year old witch who becomes an unlikely new master to a motley crew of creatures, Deadline said.
Ellen DeGeneres and Jeff Kleeman acquired the property last year for their shingle A Very Good Production. Disney exec Sam Dickerman is overseeing the project for the studio.
Kunstler is a veteran TV comedy writer who worked as a consulting producer on CBS’ Mom last season. Prior to that, he was a co-exec producer on CBS’ The Crazy Ones, which starred Robin Williams. His other credited include a co-exec producer on Accidentally on Purpose and he served as a consultant on How to Live with Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life). Additionally, Kunstler has developed pilots at HBO, Showtime, NBC, and CBS.
