Disney developing “Wild City” with James Ponsoldt

PanARMENIAN.Net - Disney is teaming with indie stalwart James Ponsoldt on “Wild City”, which explores the adventures of wild animals in Los Angeles, Variety reports.

The project is a CG/live-action hybrid, which Ponsoldt will produce and direct from his own script. Louie Provost is overseeing it for Disney.

Ponsoldt is best known for directing the comedy-drama “The Spectacular Now,” starring Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller. It won the Special Jury Award for Acting at Sundance and generated nearly $7 million at the domestic box office for A24 in 2013.

Ponsoldt also directed “The End of the Tour,” starring Jason Segel as David Foster Wallace. A24 generated $3 million from the release.

EuropaCorp picked up domestic rights to Ponsoldt’s “The Circle” earlier this year, but has not set a release date. The film is based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Dave Eggers and stars Tom Hanks, Emma Watson, and John Boyega.

Ponsoldt’s first film was “Off the Black,” starring Nick Nolte, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2006. His second film was “Smashed,” starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul, which was winner of Sundance’s Special Jury Prize for Excellence in Independent Film Producing in 2012.
