Wayne Rooney has to fight for new Manchester United contractAugust 18, 2016 - 15:54 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Wayne Rooney won’t be offered a new contract by Manchester United for at least another 18 months according to The Sun. The Red Devils and England’s captain currently has a contract that runs out in the middle of 2019, and it’s understood Rooney wants to finish his playing career at Old Trafford, Fox Sports says. However, United are reluctant to offer him a new deal with a pay-rise before he proves he’s worth an increase on his £300,000-a-week wages. “Rooney is ready to end his playing days at United,” an Old Trafford source told the Sun. “He is presently contracted until the summer of 2019, but nothing is in the pipeline. “It will be at least another 16 to 18 months or so before they even make a further look on an extension on that.” Rooney has been at the club for 12 years and signed a new five-and-a-half year deal in early 2014, Fox says. The 30-year-old’s form has been criticised in recent times, but new manager Jose Mourinho believes he still has a lot to give to United. “Wayne has been a wonderful servant to this great club over the last 12 years,” said Mourinho. “He’s won virtually every trophy, including five Prem titles and a Champions League medal. “And I am sure he will provide many more memorable moments for United in the coming years at Old Trafford.” Top stories Armenian gymnast, Olympic bronze medalist Artur Davtyan has reached the finals of the World Cup.
