VivaCell-MTS brings free WiFi to downtown Yerevan

PanARMENIAN.Net - VivaCell-MTS announced Thursday, August 18 it has come up with another initiative aimed at providing mobile subscribers with access to WiFi Internet in public areas.

The first phase of the pilot project covers one of the most saturated areas of Yerevan adjacent to central Vazgen Sargsyan street that stretches from the Republic Square down to the Shahumyan Square.

Free Wi-Fi will be available without any additional charges to both subscribers and non-subscribers of VivaCell-MTS.

VivaCell-MTS subscribers will benefit from unlimited access to Internet by simply dialing USSD *252# and getting the PIN code required for access.

VivaCell-MTS data users will get access to the Internet with a speed of up to 5 Mb/s while non-data users will get access with a speed of only 512 kb/s which is enough for comfortable browsing.

Non-VivaCell-MTS subscribers will be limited to browsing websites only and will first be exposed to a short advertisement video or a banner before getting connected to the Internet.

“Free of charge Wi-Fi connectivity provides several advantages: for those who use the Internet for leisure, entertainment and business this is a tangible benefit, of course. It’s also a benefit for the visitors of Yerevan, who will have free and unlimited access to the Internet while walking in the city center. Providing free WiFi in the Republic Square is the natural extension of the projects, in the framework of which numerous museums and libraries of Armenia's capital have been provided with free Wi-Fi connectivity by VivaCell-MTS,” General Manager Ralph Yirikian said.
