“Star Trek Beyond” helmer Justin Lin to direct “Hot Wheels”

PanARMENIAN.Net - “Star Trek Beyond” helmer Justin Lin has closed a deal to direct Legendary’s “Hot Wheels” based on the car toyline from Mattel, Variety reports.

He will also develop and produce the property through his Perfect Storm Entertainment banner. Lin and Perfect Storm will also have an option to co-finance the movie.

Plot details are unknown at this time. Since the film still needs to find a writer, it’s not expected to be Lin’s next project.

Legendary’s Alex Garcia will oversee the movie for the company, while Universal will distribute the pic.

Hot Wheels is one of the world’s biggest toy brands, with Mattel claiming that it’s the best-selling toy in the world, with more than 5 billion tiny cars produced since 1968. According to Mattel, the company creates nine million cars every week and sells 10 every second.

Lin helped reboot the “The Fast and the Furious” franchise, beginning with “Tokyo Drift.” “Fast & Furious 6” was the last film he directed in the series. Following the success of those films, Lin went to produce and direct “Star Trek Beyond,” which has gone on to gross almost $336.5 million worldwide.
