Baseball comedy from “Mindy Project” duo set at NBC

PanARMENIAN.Net - As the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians prepare for an epic Game 7 of the World Series, NBC is looking to tap into the world of youth baseball. The network has handed out a hefty put-pilot commitment to All Stars, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The comedy will be written by the Mindy Project duo of Jack Burditt and Charlie Grandy and hails from Universal Television, where both are under overall deals.

The comedy centers on a collection of very different families who are bound together by their children's 10-and-under all-star baseball team.

All Stars comes as sports-themed projects continue to be in high demand this development season following the success of scripted series including HBO's Ballers, Starz's Survivor's Remorse and Fox's Pitch, the latter of which is produced in partnership with Major League Baseball.

Other projects in the works this season include LeBron James' NBC sports-medicine drama, NFL defensive end Calais Campbell's semi-autobiographical CBS family comedy, Simon Cowell, Ian Brennan and Diablo Cody's Fox synchronized-swimming comedy and Michael Strahan's ABC drama about a Heisman Trophy winner turned cop. Meanwhile, Michael B. Jordan's first project under his new Skydance production deal is the hoops drama Apollo Park.

All Stars arrives a year after ABC went to pilot with Justin Long comedy Dream Team, which centered on a champion club soccer team coach who starts over by coaching a group of 8-year-olds (and their parents).
