John Boyega confirms “Pacific Rim 2” title as filming begins

The title of "Pacific Rim 2" has finally been confirmed as the production officially kicks off in Sidney, Australia. The lead actor himself, John Boyega, took to Instagram on Wednesday, November 9 to share a photo of the script, with the official title of the movie printed on its cover, AceShowbiz said.

As seen in the image, the follow-up to Guillermo del Toro's 2013 "Pacific Rim" is titled "Pacific Rim: Maelstrom". "First day on Pacific Rim today. Here's to a great adventure ahead," the 24-year-old actor wrote in the caption.

Hours later, director Steven S. DeKnight tweeted a photo of a clapperboard emblazoned with the subtitle. "Day 1 of shooting. The adventure begins...," he captioned the image, adding the hashtag "#PacificRim2."

"Pacific Rim: Maelstrom" is set for a February 23, 2018 release in U.S. theaters. In the upcoming movie, Boyega will play the son of Stacker Pentecost, a character played by Idris Elba in the first movie. Other cast members include "Suicide Squad" actor Scott Eastwood, newcomer Cailee Spaeny, Charlie Day, Levi Meaden and Jing Tian.

Plot details are still scarce. DeKnight is directing the sci-fi flick from a script co-written by del Toro, Emily Carmichael, Kira Snyder and Travis Beacham. This will be the first Blockbuster movie that DeKnight's directing, after he wrote for and directed TV shows which included "Daredevil" and "Smallville".
