PanARMENIAN.Net - "The Wizard of Oz" has never been this dark before. NBC has released the first trailer for its modern take on the famous tale by L. Frank Baum, AceShowbiz said. Titled "Emerald City", the upcoming series follows an adult Dorothy Gale (Adria Arjona), who is suddenly transported to Oz, after she said in Kansas, "Do you wanna know what I wish? I wish there was more."

After the death of a wicked witch, she finds herself in the middle of a battle for supremacy. She also meets Scarecrow (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) who is crucified and later the two fall in love, giving Dorothy a reason to stay in Oz.

"Ask yourself why you were brought to Oz," Vincent D'Onofrio's the Wizard says to Dorothy. "Are you just a girl from Kansas, or are you more?"

Directed by Tarsem Singh, the 10-episode first season of the drama series will premiere January 6 at 9 P.M. ET on NBC.
