“Somewhere Between” drama ordered to series at ABC

PanARMENIAN.Net - ABC is adding a thriller to its roster. The Disney-owned network has handed out a straight-to-series order for drama Somewhere Between, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The project, produced by Thunderbird Entertainment, centers around Laura Price, a woman who — as the logline suggests — isn't crazy but knows her daughter Serena is going to be murdered. She doesn’t know who the murderer is, or why her daughter is being targeted, but she knows exactly when it will happen, where and how. Despite this, all of Laura's attempts to keep her daughter safe fail, and Serena’s fixed, unmovable, terrifying fate keeps her directly in the path of her killer.

Stephen Tolkin (Legend of the Seeker, Brothers & Sisters) is set to pen the script and executive produce alongside Ivan Fecan and Joseph Broido. The drama is poised to shoot in Vancouver.

The show, which has not yet been cast, will debut in the summer, where ABC has a history of broadcasting low-cost imported fare (a la canceled Mistresses and Rookie Blue) in the traditionally little-watched period.

Somewhere Between marks ABC's latest straight-to-series order. It joins Kyra Sedgwick drama Ten Days in the Valley, which is currently casting, as well as Marvel's The Inhumans, the latter of which will debut in the fall following a two-week Labor Day sneak in Imax theaters.

This past summer, ABC found success with its slate of retro game shows including The $100,000 Pyramid, Match Game and Celebrity Family Feud, all of which have been renewed.

Broadcast networks have found mixed results with scripted originals in recent years after CBS changed the landscape with high-cost, big-swing sci-fi fare like Under the Dome a few years ago. Those big-budget dramas often are offset by lucrative SVOD deals with Netflix and Amazon that make them immediately profitable before they even debut.
