Sixth shift of Armenian peacekeepers departed for IraqJuly 18, 2007 - 14:20 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - A solemn ceremony of sending the sixth shift of Armenian peacekeepers to Iraq took place in Yerevan. Armenian peacekeepers are participating in international operations in Iraq and Kosovo proceeding from national interests, said Seyran Ohanyan, the chief of the RA Armed Forces General Staff. "The service of our peacekeepers doesn't yield to the bravery demonstrated during formation of the Armenian state system. Activities of the Armenian peacekeepers are appreciated highly by the international structures. Armenia's participation in peacekeeping operations proves that Armenia is interested in security not only within our republic but throughout the globe," he said. Armenian peacekeepers have been promoting stability in Iraq within the Polish division since January 25, 2005. The fifth shift of peacekeepers sent to Iraq February 2 includes 46 members: 2 staff officers, 3 medical officers, 10 field engineers and 31 drivers.
