David Lynch’s "Twin Peaks" revival gets premiere date

PanARMENIAN.Net - "Twin Peaks" revival has finally got a premiere date. Showtime president and CEO David Nevins announced on Monday, January 9 at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that the revival of the 1990s cult favorite would debut Sunday, May 21 at 9/8c with a two-hour opener, AceShowbiz said.

Immediately following the two-hour premiere, episodes 3 and 4 will be made available On Demand and via Showtime's streaming platform. The rest of the episodes will air weekly. The new season will consist of 18 episodes in total. "It will be 18 unforgettable hours," Nevins teased.

Nevins further gushed about the revival, "We've seen the whole thing. David Lynch is one of the great film masters of my lifetime. I think this is the pure heroin version of David Lynch and I'm excited to put it out."

Lynch, who co-created the series, returns to direct all 18 episodes of the revival. While Lynch remains mum on the storyline, Nevins revealed that it's "about Agent Cooper's odyssey back to Twin Peaks" and teased an "emotional" story that would ground the 18-hour run.

As for a trailer, Nevins hinted at teasers a la "American Horror Story" instead of a "traditional trailer." He said, "I don't know whether we're going to have a traditional trailer. You might start seeing some filmed pieces coming out but there definitely won't be trailers that give away all the big plot points as is traditional in the movie business."

Asked whether there's a possibility that the revival would get a second season, Nevins noted that "it's designed to be a close-ended, one-time event."

Later when making a surprise appearance at the TCA, Lynch said he wouldn't rule out more "Twin Peaks" after the 18-episode run. "Well before I said I was never going to revisit it. And I did. So I never said never. But as of now there are no plans," he explained.

Kyle MacLachlan, Sheryl Lee and Sherilyn Fenn are among the returning stars, while Balthazar Getty, Amanda Seyfried, Laura Dern and Robert Knepper are tapped as new additions to the cast.
