Mermaids are real in new drama series trailer for “Siren”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Freeform announced at their upfront presentation in New York on Wednesday, April 19 that the network had picked up a 10-episode drama titled "Siren". Formerly known as "The Deep", the series about mermaid is set to premiere in summer 2018, AceShowbiz said.

Along with the announcement, Freeform also released the first trailer of the series. The trailer sees that the mermaid on the series won't be your typical mermaids in fairytale. The trailer opens with a mysterious girl named Ryn suddenly popping out looking like a lost girl before Helen. Helen, a resident of Bristol Cove who seems to know more about the mermaid, looks so surprised to see Ryn as if she discovers something scary.

The trailer later shows how the mermaid ends up in the land after being caught by fishermen's net at one night. She attacks the fishermen brutally afterwards. The words about the attacked fishermen seem to have reached the town as marine biologist Ben later is seen asking Helen about the legend of mermaid, after someone mentions the mythical creature in the middle of a discussion. "When I was kid, you told me a story about the mermaid," Ben asks Helen. Helen reveals the truth, saying that Ben's ancestors slaughtered "these beautiful creatures," much to Ben's surprise.

Ryn later meets a suspicious guy, who notices that Ryn is not from the town. He seems to have something up his sleeve as he takes Ryn into the wood by his car. When he is about to kiss Ryn, she kills the guy brutally and fast in defense. At the end of the trailer, Ben can be seen following Ryn who dives into the water. He discovers Ryn's real identity as a mermaid, but before he gathers his mind together upon what he has just witnessed, Ryn smashes him hard under water.

"Siren" takes us inside Bristol Cove-a coastal town known for its legend of once being home to mermaids. When the arrival of a mysterious girl proves this folklore all too true, the battle between man and sea takes a very vicious turn as these predatory beings return to reclaim their right to the ocean. The series stars Alex Roe ("The 5th Wave") as Ben, a bright marine biologist who finds himself drawn to a mysterious new girl in town, Ryn, played by Eline Powell ("Game of Thrones"), who is a strange young woman with a deep dark secret. Fola Evans-Akingbola ("An American Exorcism") stars as Maddie, also a marine biologist who works with Ben, and is highly suspicious of Ryn. Ian Verdun ("Life's a Drag") stars as Xander, a deep sea fisherman on a quest to uncover the truth; and Rena Owen ("Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones") as Helen, the town eccentric who seems to know more about the mermaids than she lets on.

"Siren" is based on a story by Eric Wald and Dean White who also serve as executive producers. Emily Whitesell ("Finding Carter") is attached as both showrunner and executive producer. Also serve as executive producers are Brad Luff, Nate Hopper and RD Robb.
