US COUNCIL FOR INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS DELEGATION IN NKR WITH FAMILIARIZATION VISIT
The delegation of the US council for international affairs led by the senior staff scientist of Stanford Institute of International Studies (USA) and the International Security and Cooperation Center professor Gale Lapidus in Nagorno Karabakh these days. As G. Lapidus stated at the meeting with the NKR deputy foreign minister Masis Mailyan, the visit of the delegation to Nagorno-Karabakh has a familiarization nature aiming at studying the region and the perspectives of its development. Toward this end, the visits to Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia are also planned. In particular, she noted, the delegation members are interested in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, current internal political situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and its status in the talks on the settlement of that issue. As «De-facto» agency reports, the NKR deputy foreign minister noted, the leadership and people of Nagorno-Karabakh follow the decision of the national referendum on independence of NKR and continue the process of building up their state system in concordance with the international law. «Through the democratically elected government bodies, the management of state affairs is effectively realized, the republic independently conducts foreign policy», noted Masis Mailyan. A wide range of issues regarding the activities of international mediators for the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, problems of refugees, reestablishment and perspectives of the economy development of Nagorno-Karabakh, its relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan, integration process in the region was touched upon at the meeting.
