Bryza: Karabakh conflict can't be resolved without compromise
OSCE Minsk Group U.S. Co-chair Matthew Bryza supposes that the status quo in the Karabakh issue creates danger.
"It is evident because people still die in firings. Both sides have suffered and they should find common ground and come to an agreement, which implies search for compromise," he said. "Peaceful agreement is impossible without concessions on Azerbaijan and Armenia's part. And this depends on the parties to conflict but not on the mediators."
Asked what else is necessary for finding a mutually acceptable solution, Ambassador Bryza said, "The sides need talks, political will, common sense. This means that the Presidents should create the atmosphere of trust. We will see whether they will succeed. As to me, I will do everything in my power to encourage the process."
Commenting on his expectations for the June 6 Sargsyan-Aliyev meeting, he said, "This will be an acquaintance and I do not expect anything else. Negotiators should know each other," Day.az reports.
