European Council calls for preventing further escalation in KarabakhSeptember 27, 2020 - 15:55 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - President of the European Council Charles Michel has called for preventing further escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh. His comments came hours after Azerbaijan launched a large-scale offensive along the Karabakh contact line and has been shelling civilian settlements since early morning. At least two civilians – a woman and a child – have been killed, while two others have been injured. "Reports of hostilities from the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone are of most serious concern," Michel tweeted. "Military action must stop, as a matter of urgency, to prevent a further escalation. An immediate return to negotiations, without preconditions, is the only way forward." Both Armenia and Karabakh have introduced martial law and total mobilization of their male population. The Nagorno Karabakh Defense Army said on Sunday, September 27 that helicopters, drones, tanks and infantry armored vehicles belonging to the Azerbaijani military have been destroyed since morning.
