Catalonia's Berga recognizes independence of Karabakh

PanARMENIAN.Net - The City Council Berga, Catalonia has recognized the independence of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and condemned Azerbaijan's military assault against Armenians, Aquí Berguedà reports.

The municipal plenary has approved the motion, which also slams the "active government intervention" from Turkey.

The motion is calling for the condemnation of war crimes committed by Azerbaijan, such as the use of prohibited cluster bombs against civilians in Karabakh, the bombing of cities and monuments, and the execution of prisoners of war.

In addition, the text approved by most council members recognizes the "right to self-determination" of the Armenians of Artsakh and the "independence and sovereignty" of the territory, which is the historical habitat of the indigenous Armenian population.

Italy's Lombardy, the Australian state of New South Wales, several U.S. states and dozens of towns across the world have already recognized Karabakh.

Azerbaijan, with help from Turkey and terrorist mercenaries deployed by Ankara, started a war against Karabakh (Artsakh) in the morning of September 27. The Armenian side has reported deaths and injuries both among the civilian population and the military. Foreign and local journalists too have been injured in Azeri shelling of towns and villages.

Donations can be made to Hayastan All-Armenian Fund, which has launched a fundraising campaign to support humanitarian efforts in Karabakh.
