Canada expects Azerbaijan to honor commitments under Karabakh deal

PanARMENIAN.Net - Canada expects Azerbaijan to respect commitments it made under a deal to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh and cease hostilities permanently without delay, Canadian Foreign Minister François-Philippe Champagne said Wednesday, November 11, adding that Turkey must remain outside of the conflict.

"We have taken note of the establishment of a ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh. We are working with our international partners to examine the terms and implications of this latest development," Champagne said.

"I have been in regular contact with the Armenian Foreign Minister to see how Canada can continue to support the Armenian people during this most difficult time and with whom we share strong people to people ties and values."

The top Canadian diplomat said all parties must negotiate to achieve a permanent and peaceful settlement, beyond the ceasefire and through the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs process.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev have signed a deal to end the war in Karabakh after 44 days. Karabakh (Artsakh) President Arayik Harutyunyan said on Tuesday that he has agreed to the deal signed by Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan.
