U.S. envoy to Yerevan: Political violence have no place in democratic society

PanARMENIAN.Net - U.S. Ambassador Lynne Tracy believes political violence and intimidation have no place in a democratic society, amid civil unrest broiling in the country.

Tracy discussed the current political situation with lawmaker Lilit Makunts from the ruling My Step bloc, the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan said in a tweet Sunday, November 15.

The two reaffirmed their joint commitment to strengthening democracy and the rule of law in Armenia.

“Political violence and intimidation have no place in a democratic society,” said the Ambassador.

Her comments came before a Facebook post from Nikol Pashinyan, which many interpreted as a call for civil war but which he later denied was aimed at inciting violence or unrest of any kind.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev have signed a deal to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Karabakh (Artsakh) President Arayik Harutyunyan said on Tuesday that he has agreed to the deal signed by Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan.
