David Bakradze: Tbilisi does its best to resolve the problem of Armenian Churches in Georgia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Georgian delegation led by parliament speaker David Bakradze arrived in Armenia on February 24.

In a meeting with RA National Assembly chairman Hovik Abrahamyan, Mr. Bakradze emphasized that the visit will help development of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries and invited his Armenian counterpart to Georgia.

For his part, Hovik Abrahamyan rated high the level of the Armenian-Georgian relations and voiced confidence that the visit will strengthen interparliamentary ties.

Touching upon regional issues, the RA NA speaker emphasized that Armenia takes consistent steps for normalization of relations with Turkey and attaches importance to resolution of Abkhazian and South Ossetian conflict and expects Georgia to take a similar position on Nagorno Karabakh.

He also pointed out to the necessity of implementation of programs aimed to improve regional transportation infrastructures, specifically construction of Yerevan-Gyumri-Ninotsminda- Akhaltsikhe-Batumi highway, which constitutes a part of North- South transport corridor.

As to the fate of Armenian Churches in Georgia, Mr. Abrahamyan voiced hope that upon determining the legal status of Armenian Apostolic Church's Georgian Diocese, the return of Armenian churches will also be considered.

"The government of Georgia will do its best to settle the issue of Armenian Churches, as there mustn't be any unsolvable problems between our countries," Mr. Bakradze said, the RA NA press office reported.
