Ex-lawmaker Manvel Grigoryan dies

PanARMENIAN.Net - Former lawmaker and ex-leader of Yerkrapah veteran union Manvel Grigoryan has died aged 64, former MP Karen Avagyan said in a Facebook post on Thursday, November 19.

"Artsakh hero, Lieutenant General Manvel Grigoryan died… May God rest your soul, hero," Avagyan wrote.

Grigoryan was arrested in summer of 2018 and charged with the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, the embezzlement of state funds and property, and tax evasion. According to footage unveiled by the National Security Service, Grigoryan also stole aid, food, vehicles and ambulance cars designated for the army intended for the army.

Court hearings were regularly being postponed because of his ill health. In January 2020, he was released from prison due to health problems.

After Azerbaijan launched a large-scale war against Karabakh, Grigoryan left for the frontline but was urgently transported back when his health deteriorated.
