Armenia ex-President: Pashinyan must go through a constitutional path

PanARMENIAN.Net - Former President Levon Ter-Petrosyan has weighed in on the situation in Armenia, noting that a rally announced by Vazgen Manukyan, the opposition candidate for the Prime Minister, has deepened his fears about the danger of a civil war threatening the country.

Ter-Petrosyan said Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's regime must resign immediately, but not through internal conflict, but exclusively through a constitutional path, Ilur.am reports.

The former Armenian leader slammed what he described "the open demonstration of readiness for violence" among Manukyan's supporters. According to him, Manukyan also ignores the fact that Pashinyan too "has adopted the same position" and "is not going to leave voluntarily, but is ready for any confrontation."

"Therefore, I urge the people against taking part in mass provocations organized by both the current government and the opposition, which, in addition to the threat of civil war, are extremely dangerous for the uncontrollable spread of the coronavirus," Ter-Petrosyan said.

The Armenian opposition has given Pashinyan until noon on December 8 to step down. Ishkhan Saghatelyan from Dashnaktsutyun (Armenian Revolutionary Federation) party said if Pashinyan fails to comply with the demand, the opposition will organize a civil disobedience campaign across the country.
