Tbilisi shouldn't use August events to get closer to NATO
Ukraine and Georgia would greatly benefit from cooperation with NATO, yet Today it's useless to discuss the countries' joining the Alliance, Ukraine ex-President Leonid Kuchma stated at Yerevan-Tbilisi-Moscow-Kiev-Kishinev live conference entitled ''Ukraine and CIS in world financial crisis situation''.
''I always supported Ukraine's initiative to join NATO. Yet Kiev must refrain from the idea, as after recent events in Caucasus, the Alliance has altered its position towards Ukraine and Georgia''.
Referring to GUAM, Kuchma emphasized the only aim of the alliance was providing transport corridors for GUAM member States. ''We did not intend to turning it into military and political alliance, as it would have no perspectives as such,'' Leonid Kuchma stated.
