President visits Armenian Army General Staff

PanARMENIAN.Net - President Armen Sarkissian visited the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, where he met with the Chief of the General Staff, Colonel-General Onik Gasparyan.

Sarkissian's office said earlier that the two were set to meet, amid political turmoil that threatens to plunge the country into further crisis.

Sarkissian has said he will be initiating a series of discussions to reduce tension in the country and find a peaceful solution to the situation.

Armenia is facing a serious political crisis after the country's top military brass demanded Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's resignation. The PM, however, claimed he had already dismissed the chief of the Army General Staff and accused the military of "coup attempt. The parliamentary opposition has already weighed in on the matter, urging against bloodshed and calling for a peaceful transition of power.
