ECHR notifies CoE about Baku's violation of Armenian POWs' rightsMarch 13, 2021 - 14:34 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The European Court of Human Rights has notified the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe about violations of the rights of Armenian civilians and prisoners of war held in Azerbaijan. The ECHR's decision was based on the numerous applications of the Armenian representative before the ECHR, as well as the fact that the Azerbaijani government failed to provide complete information about the captives by deadlines set by the ECHR. Armenia's Representative added that the Court's decisions to apply an interim measure against Azerbaijan regarding the prisoners of war are still in force. The European Court had ordered Azerbaijan to provide information about the conditions of detention of the captives, their health, as well as the measures taken to return them. The European Court also noted that given the nature of information provided by the Government of Armenia, it has decided to not apply interim measures, and therefore there is no need to notify the Committee of Ministers.
