Karabakh border residents could be allowed to carry hunting rifles

PanARMENIAN.Net - A draft law on amendments to the law of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) on weapons has been submitted to the National Assembly of Artsakh.

The amendment would give the right to purchase a hunting rifle to citizens who have completed compulsory military service and those who have used and know the rules of handling weapons.

Under the current law, only people who have been granted the right to hunt are allowed to purchase hunting rifles. The draft project seeks to change that, given that many towns and villages have become border settlements after the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh in September 2020.

It was reported in February that Armenian citizens living in border settlements too will be allowed to carry hunting rifles when the parliament approves amendments to the Law on Weapons.

After the 44-day in Nagorno-Karabakh, many villages and towns in Armenia's Syunik province too have become border settlements, where residents worry for their safety. For example, the border now passes through the Armenian village of Shurnukh, some families having lost their property and homes as a result.
