Lawmaker denies reports on Azerbaijan's encroachment in Ghegharkunik

PanARMENIAN.Net - Lawmaker Taguhi Tovmasyan has revealed that the Azerbaijani armed forces have not encroached on the Armenian state border in the province of Gegharkunik.

Reports about unrest in the area emerged after the Defense Ministry confirmed Azerbaijan has attempted to advance in the southern province of Syunik.

Tovmasyan said she has communicated her concerns to the Army Corps Commander of the province of Gegharkunik, who has denied media reports about alleged aggression from the Azerbaijani side.

The Defense Ministry earlier denied allegations that "clashes" have happened near the village of Ishkhanasar, Syunik, urging against disseminating unverified information and spreading panic among the public.

Irina Yolyan, the Deputy Mayor of the town of Goris in Syunik, said, however, that hundreds of Azerbaijanis have crossed the state border and advanced three kilometers towards the settlement of Verishen.
