Yerevan: Outgoing FM urged to clarify reasons for resignation

PanARMENIAN.Net - Mane Gevorgyan, a spokesperson for acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, said on Monday, May 31 that she expects outgoing Foreign Minister Ara Aivazian to provide public clarifications on the reason behind his decision to resign.

Aivazian said in his farewell speech to the employees of the Foreign Ministry on Monday that his resignation is meant to leave no room for doubt "that this ministry could have ever taken any step or given consent to ideas, initiatives that were against our statehood, our national and state interests."

"We are grateful to Mr. Aivazian for his work, however, we think that our state and national interests oblige Mr. Aivazian to publicly explain who was going to take a step or make a decision that would contradict the state and national interests of our country," Gevorgyan told Armenpress.

"We expect Mr. Aivazian to clarify [these questions] publicly."
