Azerbaijan in favor of delimitation but wants

PanARMENIAN.Net - Baku supports the calls of the international community for a peaceful resolution of the tension on the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border and the delimitation and demarcation of the border, respecting "the territorial integrity" of the two countries, said the head of the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Leyla Abdullayeva.

"We have repeatedly stated that we support the settlement of border tensions through negotiations, and also support the calls of the international community for the demarcation and delimitation of the border between the two countries. As you know, Azerbaijan also supported the proposal to establish a trilateral commission on the delimitation and demarcation of the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia," Abdullayeva said in a statement on Monday, May 31.

At the same time, she noted that during the demarcation and delimitation of the border, "it is necessary to respect the territorial integrity of both countries", Interfax.az reports

"Only on the basis of the strict observance of international law of sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders can we normalize interstate relations, begin demarcation and delimitation of the border and lay a solid foundation for peaceful coexistence," she said.

On the morning of May 12, the armed forces of Azerbaijan violated the border of Armenia in the southern province of Syunik, advancing 3.5 kilometers and surrounding Sev Lake, which is situated on the border between the two countries but is predominantly a part of Armenia. On May 13, the Azerbaijani military committed more border violations against Armenia, advancing near Vardenis (Gegharkunik province) and Sisian (Syunik province). One Armenian serviceman was killed in Azerbaijan’s shooting on May 25, while six others were captured on May 27.
