Ombudsman: Azerbaijani troops fire on Karabakh posts, civilian residencies

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Azerbaijani military opened fire on the Armenian positions and civilian residencies from positions located near the villages of Karmir Shuka and Taghavard in Martuni region of Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabakh on Monday, September 6 morning, Karabakh Human Rights Defender Gegham Stepanyan said in a social media post.

The home of a six-member family was damaged in the process, Stepanyan said. According to him, the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent deployed in the area and the Karabakh Defense Army have been notified about the incident.

"The Azerbaijani positions located in the vicinity of peaceful settlements are a direct threat to the life, health and other vital rights of the people of Artsakh; they disrupt the normal life and activities of the population in those settlements," Stepanyan said.

"The Azerbaijani side, particularly the perpetrators behind such incidents, are not held accountable for the incidents, which serves as a basis for the recurrence of such incidents."

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev on November 9 signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side returned all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
