Slovakia keen to join Armenia nuclear plant modernization

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Slovak company Vuye is negotiating with the Armenian side on participating in the modernization of the Metsamor nuclear power plant, Slovakia's Foreign Minister Ivan Korčok told a press conference with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan in Yerevan on Tuesday, September 14.

According to Korčok, energy is one of the key and promising areas of cooperation between the two countries. Slovakia is also considering the possibility of cooperation in the field of green energy, he added.

Korčok said that the two states can also team up for working in agriculture, digitalization, to name a few, Sputnik-Armenia reports.

Metsamor is the only nuclear power plant in the South Caucasus, it produces more than a third of all electricity generated in Armenia. One of the key projects of Russia and Armenia in the field of nuclear energy is the project to modernize and extend the life of the second power unit of the Armenian NPP.
