Armenian Genocide khachkar inaugurated in Barcelona

PanARMENIAN.Net - A khachkar in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide was inaugurated and anointed at Barcelona's Church of Santa María Reina on Sunday, October 3, the Armenian Embassy in Spain reveals.

The event was attended by the Ambassador of Armenia in Spain, Vladimir Karmirshalyan, and diplomats from the embassy, Pontifical Legate of the Western Europe and Representative of the Armenian Church to the Holy See Khajag Barsamian, the Vicar General of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Spain and Portugalia, Reverend Archimandrite Shnorhq Sargsyan, Primate of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Romania and Bulgaria, His Excellency Tatev Hakobyan, foreign diplomats accredited in Barcelona, representatives of the Armenian community, and many others.

Before the ceremony, a Holy Mass was served by Archbishop Barsamian.

On April 24, 1915, a large group of Armenian intellectuals was rounded up and assassinated in Constantinople by the Ottoman government. On April 24, 2021, Armenians worldwide commemorated the 106th anniversary of the Genocide which continued until 1923. Some three dozen countries, hundreds of local government bodies and international organizations have so far recognized the killings of 1.5 million Armenians as Genocide. Turkey denies to this day.
