Azerbaijan establishing customs posts on road in Armenia's Syunik

Azerbaijan has informed Armenia that it will be establishing customs posts on the Goris-Kapan road in Syunik province, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan said in an interview to Public Television Wednesday, November 10.

Grigoryan added that the Armenian side too will establish customs and border checkpoints on the same section of the road.

“Today, the Azerbaijani side notified the Armenian side that beginning from midnight, it will carry out border and customs control on the Goris-Kapan road, meaning it will establish customs posts. I want to state that the Armenian side will take appropriate steps, meaning it will establish customs and border points on this section of the road too,” Grigoryan said, adding that the Armenian side “started this work in advance”.

Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan said earlier that the alternative road to replace the one passing through pockets of Azerbaijan-controlled territories in Syunik province is "practically completely ready". Sanosyan said roads are under construction in a number of communities of Syunik province, revealing that the one connecting the towns of Sisian and Kajaran is a priority.
