Armenia wants targeted reaction to Azerbaijan's violence

Azerbaijan's aggression against Armenia is a consequence of a lack of targeted reaction from the international community, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said at a meeting with ambassadors accredited in Yerevan on Wednesday, November 17.

"Azerbaijan's behavior is a consequence of the fact that our international partners – the international community in general – did not properly respond to the use of force by Azerbaijan during the aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh, which began on September 27 last year, and then during these months," Mirzoyan told the diplomats.

"Statements equating the parties were directly perceived by Azerbaijan as an incentive to continue this behavior. We expect that our partner and friendly countries will respond immediately to these actions, will use their direct influence on Azerbaijan to urge it to stop provocative actions, encroachments on Armenia."

Mirzoyan also weighed in on Azerbaijan's continuous demands for a "corridor" through Armenia in order to establish land communication with Nakhijevan, as well as Bku's anti-Armenian, xenophobic, aggressive statements, which came months before the flare-up of violence.

"I would also like to inform you that within the UN Charter, all bilateral and multilateral agreements, the Republic of Armenia reserves the right to protect its territorial integrity and sovereignty. And from this moment on, the entire responsibility for the further escalation of the situation rests with the Republic of Azerbaijan," the Foreign Minister added.

In clashes launched by Azerbaijan on Tuesday, the Armenian side has confirmed the death of 1 serviceman, while 13 others have been captured by Azerbaijan. Two combat positions too have gone under the control of Azeri forces, 24 Armenian troops have gone missing.
