Baku says ready for peace treaty if Yerevan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Baku is ready to take concrete steps to sign a peace treaty with Yerevan, if Armenia considers the matter "a serious step", the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday, March 29, according to Interfax.az.

"If the Armenian side considers the issue of a peace agreement not as another public announcement, but as a serious step, it is time to take concrete steps. We would like to emphasize once again that Azerbaijan is ready for this," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement in response to the one by the Security Council Armenia.

Baku maintained that the "immediate cause" of the escalation of tension in the region is Yerevan's failure to fulfill its obligations. "It is the violation by Armenia of the provisions of the tripartite declaration that increases tension in the region and undermines efforts to establish peace," the report says.

The Security Council of Armenia said on Monday that Azerbaijan is paving the way for new provocations and attacks in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh). The Council said the security situation around Nagorno-Karabakh was extremely tense, and that their analysis shows that Azerbaijan, trying to find imaginary justifications, is paving the way for new provocations and attacks in Artsakh, including accusing Armenia of "unconstructive actions in the issue of the peace treaty."
