Armenia, France talk OSCE role in Karabakh settlement

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Monday, April 11 met with Brice Roquefeuil, France's co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group.

According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, the role of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was discussed during the meeting in Yerevan.

The situation created as a result of the incursion of the Azerbaijani armed forces into the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagono-Karabakh was on the table.

Azerbaijan has broken into Nagorno-Karabakh, and the incursion has left three Armenian soldiers dead and at least 14 others injured. On March 24, Azerbaijan stormed into the zone of the responsibility of the Russian peacekeepers stationed in the area and is refusing to completely withdraw its forces from strategic heights.

Mirzoyan presented the humanitarian issues deliberately created for the Armenians of Artsakh (Karabakh) by Azerbaijan in its ethnic cleansing campaign and stressed the need for Azerbaijan's withdrawal to positions they held before March 23.

The Foreign Ministry revealed earlier that Yerevan has soon asked the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs to initiate peace negotiations with Azerbaijan.
