Opposition marches as CSTO Ministerial Council meets in Yerevan

The opposition Resistance movement demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will be marching in downtown Yerevan on Friday, June 10 as the Armenian capital is hosting a CSTO Ministerial Council meeting.

The CSTO meeting will be chaired by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan at the presidential residence. Meetings of the foreign ministers of the CSTO member states will be held, followed by a press statement by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas.

Lawmaker from the opposition Armenia bloc Gegham Manukyan has called on protesters to march to the presidential residence in order to reiterate that the Armenian authorities "do not have a mandate to negotiate on behalf of the people."

In recent months, protesters demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan have taken to the streets to block major roads in the capital Yerevan and call on the population to commit acts of civil disobedience. Pashinian has come under fire after he and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev agreed to start drafting a bilateral peace treaty to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and set up a joint commission on demarcating the borders.
