Pashinyan: Karabakh settlement, border demarcation not interdependent

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has nothing to do with the demarcation and delimitation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Pashinyan said in an interview with Al Jazeera that Armenia and Azerbaijan maintain communication on various dimensions, the commission on border delimitation being one of them.

The Second Karabakh war lasted 44 days and ended when Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev signed a ceasefire statement on November 9, 2020. Under the deal, the Armenian side returned all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.

The Armenian PM said the statement does not mention the Karabakh conflict but expressed hope that the sides will get to work on that in the future. He also maintained that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains the most urgent issue between Armenia and Azerbaijan and for regional peace.
