Armenia PM wants border troops to control country's entire frontierJuly 16, 2022 - 14:09 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The authorities of Armenia want all the borders of the country to be handed over to the control of the border guard troops, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told an event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the formation of the Border Guard Troops of the National Security Service on Friday, July 15. "The border guard troops are generally the symbol of peace because frontiers whose protection is entrusted to them are usually considered peaceful," Pashinyan told the ceremony. "Because it is assumed that a friendship or a peace treaty has been concluded between the states on either side of said borders." The Prime Minister reminded, however, that a number of border troops have in fact died for the protection of the country. "The logic of our policy is that we want all the borders of the Republic of Armenia, without exception, to be handed over to the control of the border guard troops, so that the army units return to their permanent locations," he said. "And this is exactly what we mean when we announce that the Armenian Government has adopted a peace agenda."
