Kazakhstan says not considering sending peacekeepers to Armenia

Kazakh Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tileuberdi has weighed in on the question of whether Kazakhstan is planning to send peacekeepers to Armenia amid Azerbaijan's aggression, Kazakhstan Today reports.

"There is no question of sending peacekeepers from Kazakhstan," Tileuberdi said Wednesday, September 13.

The diplomat, whose country, like Armenia, is a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, maintained that they are receiving "different information" from the sides of the conflict.

"Therefore, the heads of the CSTO member states decided that the CSTO Secretary General would travel to the site, get the details on the ground and inform the heads of state," Tileuberdi said.

The Armenian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday morning that the situation on the border remained tense, with the Azerbaijani military continuing to shell the Armenian positions and civilian homes. Photos published online show damage to residential buildings in villages situated the closest to the border. 49 Armenian servicemen have been confirmed dead.
