Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried spoke over the phone on Friday, December 9 to discuss issues related to regional security and stability.

According to a press release from the Armenian Foreign Ministry, the two exchanged views on the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, with Donfried stressing readiness of the U.S. to support the peace process in the South Caucasus.

Border security and delimitation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the unblocking of transport infrastructures in the region were also high on the agenda.

Emphasizing the efforts made by Armenia to establish peace, Mirzoyan noted that the security situation in the region is fragile, and the chance of new provocations by Azerbaijan remains high.
