ICRC delivers 10 tons of humanitarian aid to Karabakh

The first batch of humanitarian aid was delivered to Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) on the 14th day of the blockade by Azerbaijan, the head of communication programs of the ICRC delegation in Armenia Zara Amatuni has said, FactInfo reports.

According to her, the International Committee of the Red Cross ensured the safe delivery of 10 tons of humanitarian cargo through the Lachin corridor.

“We provided a truck to deliver 10 tons of humanitarian cargo and ensured safe passage. This assistance includes, first of all, medicines, baby food, which were transferred to the relevant medical institutions,” Amatuni said Monday, December 26.

She said the transportation of humanitarian cargo and any actions involving the ICRC as a whole are carried out in accordance with the procedure agreed with the authorities of the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh.

Amatuni also said that 4 foreign citizens suffering from chronic diseases were brought from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia for medical reasons.

For over two weeks now, the key road has been blocked by Azerbaijanis who claim to be environmentalists. Azerbaijan had also deprived the people of Karabakh of gas supplies.
