Armenia studying Azerbaijan’s response to peace proposal

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia has received Azerbaijan's proposals on a peace treaty and is studying them, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said Tuesday, February 7, TASS reports.

"We were supposed to meet in Moscow with the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Russia, but due to the closure of the Lachin corridor, the Armenian side postponed its participation. But despite this, we conveyed our proposals to the Azerbaijani side and recently received new proposals on a peace treaty from Baku We continue to work on the text," Mirzoyan said.

Since December 12, the sole road connecting Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia - the Lachin Corridor - has been blocked by self-described Azerbaijani environmentalists. Karabakh residents have reported food and fuel shortages, while hospital patients don't have access to essential medicines, with only a handful allowed transfer to facilities in Armenia proper.

The head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry noted Tuesday that the work on the peace treaty should continue, stressing that it was very important.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told a Cabinet meeting on December 22 that Armenia sent to Azerbaijan its proposals related to the further work of the committee on border delimitation and security issues months ago, but hadn’t received any answer.
