Erdogan “highly appreciates Armenia's support”

PanARMENIAN.Net - President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that his government “highly appreciates Armenia's support”, after it was reported that Yerevan would send rescue teams and aid to both Turkey and Syria in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake that shook the two countries on February 6.

According to a message from Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s office, the matter was discussed in a phone call between himself and Erdogan on February 7.

The Prime Minister offered condolences and expressed solidarity to the President and the people of Turkey in connection with the numerous victims of the strong earthquake that occurred in the southeastern regions of the country. He wished a speedy recovery to all the injured and added that the plane carrying the rescue squad of the Republic of Armenia to the disaster zone would take off from Yerevan's Zvartnots airport.

Erdoğan thanked the Prime Minister of Armenia for solidarity and noted that the Turkish government highly values Armenia's support, emphasizing that step also from the point of view of further deepening the dialogue between the two countries.

The death toll of a devastating earthquake in southern Turkey and Syria jumped to more than 7,800 people on Tuesday as rescuers worked against time in harsh winter conditions to dig survivors out of the rubble of collapsed buildings, Reuters says.
