Armenia says position on Kosovo independence “unchanged”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia has commented on the possibility of recognizing the independence of Kosovo, maintaining that the country’s position on the matter “has remained unchanged.”

On February 19, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan held talks with his Kosovan counterpart Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. According to the Armenian Foreign Ministry, the parties exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation on international platforms.

In response to a written request from Sputnik Armenia, the Foreign Ministry said: "Despite the fact that Armenia has not recognized the independence of Kosovo, there is a dialogue between the parties at various levels and platforms. In particular, heads of foreign affairs agencies meet regularly both on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly and at other venues. The meeting on February 19 took place in this context.”

The Armenian Foreign Ministry added that Kosovo is included in a number of international organizations (the World Customs Organization, the World Bank, the IMF, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development), where Armenia is active too.

The Ministry also drew attention to the fact that Kosovo has the status of an associate member of the International Organization of La Francophonie.

"At the same time, we inform you that Armenia's position on the recognition of Kosovo's independence has remained unchanged," the report says.

Mirzoyan and Gërvalla-Schwarz earlier met in September 2022.
