Austrian Space Forum to hold next Mars simulation in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Austrian Space Forum (OeWF) will be conducting its next AMADEE-24 Mars simulation in Armenia in March 2024, Futurezone reports.

A small field crew of highly trained analog astronauts with spacesuit simulators will conduct experiments preparing for future human and robotic Mars exploration missions.

The crew for the mission has already been determined: 2 women and 4 men from Austria, Germany, Israel, Italy and Great Britain will be recruited as so-called analog astronauts. With Anika Mehlis from Germany, a woman will lead the mission for the first time.

Co-commander is the Austrian physicist Robert Wild. In addition, 2 reserve astronauts will be on call in case someone should fail.

"For a month, Armenia will be the hub of Mars research," says OeWF director Gernot Grömer. He expects more than 250 international researchers to provide scientific support for the mission. "As far as I know, it will be the largest and most complex Mars simulation of the year," he added.
