U.S. says ready to support Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process

The United States is ready to support the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, U.S. ambassador to Yerevan Kristina Kvien told reporters at the Armenian Genocide memorial on Sunday, April 24, Aysor.am reports.

Kvien’s remarks came one day after it was revealed that Azerbaijan has installed a checkpoint on the sole road connecting Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia.

The ambassador said that the U.S. wants negotiations between the parties and that they are ready to support the peace process.

According to her, any use of violence and provocative actions undermine the peace process.

Azerbaijani authorities on Sunday set up a checkpoint on the only road connecting the Karabakh with Armenia. Baku also maintained that they have informed the command of the Russian peacekeepers and the Russian-Turkish monitoring center about the installation of the checkpoint.

Vedant Patel, the Principal Deputy Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, said in a statement on Sunday that Azerbaijan’s establishment of a checkpoint on the Lachin corridor connecting Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia undermines efforts to establish confidence in the peace process,
